Kerala Bags the Award For Responsible Tourism

Kerala Tourism won the award for the world's Best in Responsible Tourism category at the World Travel Market (WTM) 2018 held in London. This is the second consecutive year that Kerala Tourism has received this prestigious award for its outstanding tourism industry activities. Mr. Kadakampally Surendran, Minister for Tourism, Kerala, and Ms. Rani George IAS, Secretary, received the award at the WTM. The WTM award was earned as a result of the activities conducted in the last year. Mr. Kadampally Surendran, Minister for Tourism, Kerala, stated, "RT Kerala received this award for its efforts that support local communities, and RT should be acknowledged for this." "This award demonstrates that the activities of the RT Mission are effectively implemented in various parts of the state and are thus receiving international awards," said Ms. Rani George IAS, Secretary, Kerala Tourism. "This award will implement the Responsible Tourism Mission activities in Kerala better," stated Mr. Bala Kiran IAS, Director, Kerala Tourism. Mr. Rupesh Kumar, Coordinator, Responsible Tourism Mission, Kerala, said that this award will strengthen the development of people supporting tourism in Kerala. Currently, 10938 units have been registered and operate as part of the Responsible Tourism Mission. Last year, an amount of Rs. 52.6 million was earned by these local units through RT activities. Approximately 50,000 families are directly or indirectly benefitting through the activities of the Responsible Tourism Mission. Last year, Kerala received the Highly Recommended Award for its Responsible Tourism activities in Kumarakom, Kottayam.
